The DCAM Frame Capture Development Kit
The DCAM Frame Capture Development Kit combines the features of the micro-line® C6418CPU hardware platform with software support for industrial digital cameras. The result is a development environment where the user can focus on his application rather than dealing with IEEE1394 details. The Kit uses the micro-line® busmaster FPGA design for high-speed transfer of image data to the DSP or SDRAM. A software layer provides access to all DCAM features. The most time-critical parts of the image processing algorithms can be placed into the large DSP on-chip RAM. The DSP cache minimizes overhead when accessing image data in SDRAM. Processing results and control/status information can be communicated to external hardware over a variety of interfaces:
- McBSP (DSP on-chip, highly flexible multi-channel buffered serial ports)
- McASP (DSP on-chip, multi-channel audio serial port)
- I2C (DSP on-chip)
- 16-/32-bit host port (DSP on-chip)
- 32-bit peripheral interface (FPGA-based interface)
- RS-232
- Customized interfaces in the FPGA (requires optional FPGA development package)

DCAM Frame Capture API
The DCAM Frame CaptureAPI allows to control one or more digital cameras. After initialization, available cameras are located on the IEEE1394 bus. A handle to the camera is assigned when opening a specific camera. Then, the camera is accessed using this handle. Typically, features and settings of the camera are queried and modified, then the camera is started. Data transfer of image data to SDRAM is given as source code, so that the user can optimize the data transfer to his needs (e.g. number of frames to be stored in memory, etc.).

FPGA-based Image Processing
Development of FPGA-based image processing is supported by an optional FPGA Development Package. Besides other features, it includes the micro-line® busmaster FPGA as a project, so that it can be modified and expanded by the customer. This allows to leave reception of image data unchanged while adding high-speed image processing in the FPGA.

Convenient Operation During Development
The micro-line® PowerSupply board provides all necessary environment to operate the kit on the desk during development. The DC input power is supplied to the IEEE1394 cable for supplying connected cameras. A switching mode regulator allows to supply the C6418CPU from an unregulated input. The RS-232 interface is available on a 9-pin Sub-D connector for direct cable connection to the development PC when working with the Flash File System or the application examples. Resetting the system without a power-off cycle is supported by a reset button.

A part of the micro-line® family
The C6418CPU and the SC1394a are a members of the successful micro-line® family. This means small size for an affordable price. Complete systems can be built by combining the micro-line® C6418CPU with micro-line® peripheral boards. The standard 0.1'' connectors allow rapid and easy prototyping. The micro-line® PowerSupply allows convenient operation on the desk during development. After development has finished, the micro-line® board stack can simply be plugged into a customized carrier board.
